I've been using this way of saving electricity for over 4 years now and while I don't use it every day, most days of the week I'm not wasting as much electricity as I used to.

What is waste electricity?

When you leave your TV, stereo (Hi-Fi), phone charger , sky box, video recorder, DVD player on overnight you are using electricity.
This is called standby energy.

How I save it

Switching off your appliances off at night and when you are not using them is the key to saving energy.
Using a remote control power switch you can switch everything off with one button at night or when you leave the house.

I have 3 remote control sockets, like the ones above. I connect each of these remote control sockets to a 4 way power strip in my 2 rooms.
I've got one connected to the lights on my tree (via the shed).
If I'm in the lounge, I press button 1 on. This switches on my tv, dvd player and stereo.
If I'm in the dining room, I press button 2 on. This switches on my tv, dvd player and stereo.
When I leave the room, I swtich off.
When the kids are watching TV and it's tea time (dinner time) I press button 1 and they run in to the dining room immediately.
When I go to bed, I press the group button off - this switches everything off.
